Adding Vanilla and Donator content

Vanilla and Donator content should be added because: 1. It collects all information in one place, making it easy to access 2. It fills incomplete holes in this guide 3. Calamity wiki does it, so it isn't that bad an idea.

I feel you're brushing over the fact that there is a config option to disable donor items, something the Calamity mod lacks , because some people dislike the balancing and skewing from the mod's themes. Besides, if you want vanilla stuff, go to the vanilla wiki :/

└ The topic has come up before in the past, and personally I advocate against having vanilla content included. Since Calamity is being brought up, you have to keep in mind that as a general rule of thumb Calamity gear is going to be better than vanilla gear, so there's less of them included such that it's not a big portion of the page. Thorium however is directly balanced such that vanilla gear is almost always gonna be just as viable. As such, if we included vanilla options as well, then that'll effectively double the page content with information from the vanilla's guide page you can just have open in a second tab. That's just not really appealing if you ask me. That said, I'm not really sure why Diver chose to not include donator content as well, I don't think it's as drastic as vanilla content; I'll talk to him about it at some point. What classifies as "Sequence Breaking"

So, what actually is "Sequence Breaking" I know that stuff like mining meteorites before Eater of Worlds/Brain of Cthulhu, using the Reaver Shark to obtain Hellstone before any boss, or rushing into the dungeon before Skeletron to obtain a Water Bolt is a common example of sequence breaking, but it seems like this page is way too strict when it comes to sequence breaking. It seems like mining Hellstone before Skeletron, exploring the jungle before Eater of Worlds/Brain of Cthulhu or exploring The Corruption/The Crimson before Eye of Cthulhu is considered sequence breaking. I think those are just alternate paths of progression, and are not sequence breaking at all. I think these should be put in with a marker, instead of disregarded completely. But I may be mistaken.

1.4 port means that the first two examples of "sequence breaks" are fixed! --MissLunala (talk) 20:26, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

The state of this guide

This guide is still in serious need of help, and with the main guide being locked from edits now, I must come to this page. I've done some occasional edits to help out the guide a few years ago, such as shrinking some of the pre-skeleton and earlier pages by removing weapons that actually turned out to be useless, as well as adding an extra stage in pre-hardmode to round out the early progression (iirc). I had tried to add vanilla content to the page, but some people are oddly against it because "you can just open the vanilla guide in another page." However, this guide isn't a Terraria guide- its a Thorium guide. Leaving out vanilla content force people to fill out the gaps themselves; in combination with the pre-Lunar Events stage telling you to do almost everything while being completely blank, it can undermine the value of the entire guide. For example, a current issue that I have is that the Spirit Trapper's armor from the dungeon has about 8% less minion damage than the vanilla Bee Armor from the Queen Bee- the trade off is that you get +4 defense, can trade 2 extra minions for 2 extra sentries and 2 more defense depending on the chosen helmet, and a set bonus that gradually heals the user by 10 points every 5 enemy kills or by damaging bosses. The issue here is that some players might want to go for the bonus damage from the Bee Armor, and by refusing to list vanilla content, players may just see that only the modded armor is listed, and thus, the modded armor must be better than the vanilla armor. Sure, this example isn't that big of a deal, both armor sets have their upsides and downsides- but this is an issue that happens repeatedly. Thorium tries to add its own armor sets to the Melee, Ranged, Mage, and Summoner classes to compete with what's already existing, while at the same time trying to balance armor and other content around the vanilla experience, and then refusing to show said vanilla content in their guide. And don't even get me started on classless armor such as the Granite Armor, Dragon Armor, Demon Blood Armor... But I digress. Since the actual guide page itself is now protected from edits, I must make my actual suggestions here. --MissLunala (talk) 20:26, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

Suggestions

Pre-Boss: The Butterfly Staff should be removed from Pre-Boss because it is just far too powerful for that stage. The butterfly summons can hit up to 1k dps total and wipe bosses in Master Mode in seconds. Additionally, it takes obscenely high luck to be able to get a Golden Butterfly to craft it, and with no spawn rate boosters like Journey Mode's 10x spawn rate combined with the Battle Cry from Fargo's Mutant Mod, it still takes many hours to get one.

Pre-EoW/BoC: The weapons made from Petals should arguably be placed here, as they are outclassed when reaching the Pre-Skeletron phase. Petals can be obtained on the surface Jungle, which isn't nearly as dangerous as the underground Jungle. The Thorium Bow, Thorium Revolver, and Trapper are still good for this stage, and the Blooming Bow should be moved from Pre-Skeletron to here.

Mid Pre-Hardmode: The existence of this stage is questionable. Yes, there is all the content from Queen Jellyfish, the Aquatic Depths, Viscount, and Queen Bee to consider, but a lot of the items in this Mid Pre-HM stage are still viable for the Pre-Skeletron phase. Actually, the Pre-Skeletron phase might be more questionable, as this guide is essentially saying to get an entire new weapon loadout to face a single boss and then get an entire new loadout for the Wall of Flesh. This Mid Pre-HM stage essentially just exists to separate the Jungle and Goblin Army (which is arguably suited to be placed earlier) from the Pre-EoW/BoC stage. Even if the Goblin Army might be tough, there's absolutely no danger of losing, and players would want to prioritize getting the Goblin Tinkerer. Also, Silk Armor for mages really doesn't hold up anymore at this point. If you really don't want to list the Wizard Hat and Gem Robes because it is vanilla content, then just delete the Silk Armor here.

Pre-Skeletron: Copy and Paste the missing armor and accessories from the Thrower section from Mid Pre-HM to here.

Pre-Wall of Flesh: Add the Butterfly Staff if you wish, and add the Arsenal Staff. Sentries aren't very popular in Terraria, and at least add a minion here. Change Light's End to Light's Lament.

Hardmode in general: Add the Plague Doctor's Armor and Fungus Armor to the Thrower Section in Post-WoF and Pre-Mechs, Lich's Armor in Post-Mechs

Post-WoF: Add White Knight Armor and Naga-Skin Armor, Plague Doctor's Armor and Fungus Armor,

Pre-Mechs: Add , Hell's Bells, Trombone, Marching Band Armor,

Post-Mechs: Add Prime's Roar, One-Man Quartet, Cadaver's Cornet, Titan Armor sets, Life Bloom Armor, Life Binder Armor, Cyber Punk Armor,

Probably should add another stage between Plantera and Golem with the sheer amount of upgrades that get unlocked, but then again, this would create even more work, so idk.

Pre-Lunar Events: Add Illumite Armor and Weapons, Reject's Blowpipe, Mycelium Gatling Gun, Terrarium Pulse Rifle, Micro Launcher, Nebula's Reflection, Duke's Regal Carnyx, Buisine, Cryomancer Armor, Fallen Paladin's Armor, Shade Master's Armor, Dread Armor.

I've only done Ranged, Summoner, and Bard playthroughs of this mod. If anybody else can help chip in and maybe make the suggestions content better, please consider it! Latest edit by --MissLunala (talk) 20:26, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
