The Underground Corruption is a biome. It is the underground version of the surface-level Corruption, appearing at and below the cavern layer. Just like the surface Corruption, it is mainly composed of Ebonstone and spreads to nearby tiles. Although it is available in pre-Hardmode, most of its exclusive contents will only appear during Hardmode. After the Wall of Flesh is defeated for the first time, a diagonal stripe of Corruption is generated, creating additional Underground Corruption biome.

!!Error: Invalid EICONS input! Small pockets of Underground Corruption can be created through the breaking of Demon Altars, which can convert a single random Stone Block in the world into Ebonstone upon destruction.

The Underground Corruption does not suppress the spawn of other underground and cavern enemies. During Hardmode, all enemies killed in the Underground Corruption have a 1/5 (20%) / 9/25 (36%) chance to drop a Soul of Night.

On the Nintendo 3DSNintendo 3DS version version, the Underground Corruption music is replaced by the Underground Crimson music.

Note: Most characteristics of the surface Corruption also apply to the Underground Corruption. See The Corruption for more extensive information.
