True Night's Edge
Night Beam
The True Night's Edge is a Hardmode sword that is a stronger version of the Night's Edge, doing more damage and firing a projectile when swung. It is one of the ingredients necessary to craft the Terra Blade. On the Desktop, Console, Mobile, and 3DS versions, the True Night's Edge is capable of autoswing.
On the Desktop version, Console version, and Mobile version, the sword itself has a large aura of dark energy around the blade when swung, which significantly increases the range at which the weapon can deal damage to enemies, including coverage behind the player. Each time the sword swings, a projectile resembling a spinning disc of energy will be fired. The projectile will move relative to the player, staying on the same course on the screen as the player moves. The projectile deals 50% base damage (35 base damage),[1] and strikes up to 3 times. The projectile applies 10 ticks[2] of immunity frames on the target it hits, and is possible to hit the same target for multiple times (e.g. if the target is large enough for the projectiles to still stay on it after 10 ticks).[3] If the blade or its aura strikes an enemy, a purple flash is created. If its projectile strikes an enemy, a green flash is created.
On the Old-gen console version and Nintendo 3DS version, when the sword is swinging, a glowing, spinning, green sword-shaped Night Beam projectile is fired at the cursor about every 0.86 seconds by default. The Night Beam projectiles deal 100% base damage (78 base damage). The fire rate can be increased by melee speed bonuses.
(Old-gen console and 3DS versions) The sword also has the highest base damage of any pre-Plantera sword.
Its best modifier is Legendary.

Notes
(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) Animation of the True Night's Edge. Notice its circular projectile striking 3 times.
(Old-gen console and 3DS versions) Animation of the True Night's Edge. Notice its inability to pierce.
- (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) Due to their similar properties and counterpart characteristics, the True Night's Edge can be compared to the True Excalibur:
- The True Night's Edge does 30% more damage, but is only 50% as fast. The Light Beam, the glowing sword projectile fired by the True Excalibur, can go through one block-wide gaps, both horizontally and vertically, while the Night Beam can pass through solid one block-thick walls if standing directly adjacent. It cannot be fired vertically through ceilings or floors.
- Because it spins, the Night Beam effectively hits more enemies than the Light Beam. However, the Light Beam can be launched more often and moves at a faster speed.
- The True Excalibur has a 13.33% lower DPS as it may swing faster but has less damage than the True Night's Edge. Note that DPS is merely a rough estimate and far from being a reliable stat for comparison.
Trivia
- (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) The Night Beam seems to resemble a regular Night's Edge colored green, rather than a True Night's Edge.
- Unlike most projectile swords, the True Night's Edge fires a spinning projectile instead of a straight one.
- The True Night's Edge resembles the old sprite for the Night's Edge, with duller shading.
- The True Night's Edge is the item referenced in the foil Terraria badge on Steam.
