Smooth Coal is a pre-Hardmode ore. It generates naturally in the world upon creation uncommonly in the Underground and Cavern layers. Additionally, it also drops from Earthen Bats and Earthen Golems and can be obtained from Strange Crates and Scarlet Crates.

It can be mined with any pickaxe.
