The Alien Research Notes is a Master Mode-exclusive pet summoning item that has a chance to be dropped by the Star Scouter. It spawns a Research Probe pet to follow you around. The Research Probe is immune to damage from enemies and despawns upon player death.
In the player is standing still for at least 7 seconds, the Research Probe will seek out nearby critters and scan them with a beam which than has a 4 second cooldown; this effect is purely cosmetic.
Trivia
- The item's tooltip, "There are mentions of cows all over this thing" references the trope of UFOs abducting cattle.
History
- 1.7.0.2: Research Probe now has a 4 second cooldown for its visual effect, increasing the time between visual effects up to 7 seconds.
