Not to be confused with the special trail from using the Mushroom Spear or the Hammush, which damages enemies until it dissipates.

As if living underground wasn't bad enough, jerks like you come in while I'm sleeping and steal my children.

The Truffle

The Glowing Mushroom is a plant and crafting material that can be found on Mushroom grass in the Glowing Mushroom biome. Glowing Mushroom plants emit blue light.

Instead of placed as a plant, Glowing Mushroom items are placed as solid blocks. Glowing Mushroom items can be obtained by destroying Glowing Mushroom plants, cutting down Giant Glowing Mushrooms, and (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) destroying Mushroom vines and cattails. Doing so will also yield Mushroom Grass Seeds.

Notes

(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) Painting Glowing Mushrooms changes the color of their glow.
  • (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) Glowing Mushrooms can grow on actuated Mushroom grass. They will instantly be harvested.
  • Glowing Mushroom plants count towards the total tile count of the Glowing Mushroom biome, but Glowing Mushrooms placed as blocks do not count, nor do Mushroom Walls or Mushroom furniture.
  • (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) Each tile of Mushroom vines and cattails counts as a separate mushroom and drops Glowing Mushrooms separately when harvested.
  • (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) Painting Glowing Mushroom plants (including Mushroom vines and cattails), Mushroom grass, and Giant Glowing Mushrooms will change the color of the light emitted from them.

Tips

Trivia

  • Glowing Mushrooms can be considered the Glowing Mushroom biome variant of Wood. They are dropped from Giant Glowing Mushrooms when harvested, may be placed as a block without crafting them into a block beforehand, and can be crafted into furniture.
  • Glowing Mushrooms placed into an upside-down T shape can be hammered and painted to look like rocks. However, the middle block needs to connect to the block below it for it to work.

History

  • Desktop 1.4.0.1:
    • Glowing Mushrooms vines will now grow from the bottom of Mushroom Grass blocks, and grow taller when submerged in water.
    • Now used to craft the Mushroom Toilet.
    • Glowing Mushrooms no longer grow on actuated blocks (which used to result in their items immediately breaking off and falling to be collected).
  • Desktop 1.2.4:
    • New crafting recipes for furniture added.
    • Plant sprite updated.
  • Desktop 1.2:
    • Can now grow above sea level.
    • Stack limit was raised from 99 to 999.
    • Now placeable as a block.
    • No longer used as a consumable Health Recovery item.
    • Now used to craft the Mushroom Work Bench, Chair, Door, and Wall.
  • Desktop 1.0.5:
    • Harvesting Glowing Mushrooms yields an item only some of the time.
    • Mushroom Grass grows slower than before.
