The Freeze Ray is a Hardmode gun that is dropped by the Borean Strider. It shoots three bullets in quick succession, although it consumes up to three bullets per shot. It turns any Musket Balls or Silver Bullets it fires into Frost Beams, which inflicts the Freezing debuff upon contact.
